DAR Membership

Who wouldn’t want to be part of a group of women who share a proud history of family that made possible our American freedoms and independence? Add to that a heritage of service in historical preservation, promotion of education, and encouragement of patriotism, and you have Today’s DAR. Women aged 18 and older, who come from diverse backgrounds and are proud to play an active role in their communities while making new friends, are today's members of DAR.

Join us! The California DAR has 114 local chapters all over the state ready to invite you to a meeting. You are eligible for membership if you can prove lineal descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence. Our chapters can help you document that lineage and fill out the membership application.

Curious why women join? Read what members say on the National Society’s Why Join page, and find eligibility and application details under Become a Member.

Ready to start researching your family tree? The National Society’s free Genealogical Research System (GRS) is a good place to begin, whether or not you plan to join.

We welcome new members to our California chapters! Please complete the Prospective Member Information Request Form so that our state membership chairman may contact you and direct you to a DAR chapter in your area. If you prefer, you may contact our state membership chairman directly.

What is Junior Membership?

Members between 18 and 35 are known as Juniors. They are full members of DAR and can hold office at every level. The California State Society is proud of its many active Juniors, who also raise funds for the National Society’s Helen Pouch Memorial Fund. Learn more about Juniors at dar.org.

Pages, also known as the “Ladies in White” serve the Society at State Conference, Council meetings, teas, and other State Society events. They help the meetings progress smoothly by running errands, opening doors, answering questions, and assisting the State Board of Directors and guests. A DAR member is eligible to serve as a page until her 41st birthday. Paging is a fun way to learn more about DAR, make long-lasting friendships, and support the Society.
